Demographics:
The target
audience for thriller opening sequence are people in the age group of 16 to 24
year olds who live in the UK, therefore our thriller opening sequence will be filmed
in the UK and our main character will be in the same age group as our target
audience.
An advantage
of having this age group for our target audience is that we are in the same age
group as the target audience it will be easier for us to relate to them. However
it may be difficult to make this opening sequence as we don’t have all the
equipment such as lighting and production team to help us when recording our
radio drama.
Conventions:
The opening
sequence conventions which we will use low key lighting as this will help
create suspense and build tension as this makes the audience curious as to why
she’s running, who is she running away from
and will tempt them to keep watching.
Another thriller convention that will be used
is change in the angle shots, for example the protagonist will have high angle
shot which is where the camera looks down at the subject and this will make the
protagonist seem helpless and powerless.
Another key thriller convention used in our
thriller opening sequence is quick changes of camera angles and cuts in between
scenes as this adds dramatic tension.
Lastly another thriller convention that we will use is incidental music
as this is used as a pressure builder and this can be used when the protagonist
is running in the forest.
Industry
Requirements:
Our thriller
opening will be produced for Thriller chiller Film festival from Michigan and
our thriller opening sequence will be shown at the film festival. Thriller
chiller film festival is an annual 5 day live event where people for all over
the world can send their films which will be shown in the festival.
An advantage
of working with this institution is that it is already well known so we don’t
need to find other ways to promote our thriller opening as more people will be
aware of it. However a disadvantage of working with thriller chiller is that a
screening fee must be payed to screen our thriller opening at the festival
therefore increase our total budget.
As the film
festival is in the US and the thriller opening is based in the UK, there will
be some regulatory issues that need to be considered such as the British Board
of Film Classification when creating certain aspects of the movie as they may
be inappropriate. Another regulatory issue that will measures is The MPAA which
is the film regulator in the us which has a slightly different rating system
therefore we must look at the US rating system that will be appropriate for
people above the age of 16.
Medium:
The medium
that we will be working in is film and we will be creating a thriller opening
sequence. We will create a crime thriller as this fits best into out type of
text which is thriller because it’s the most suspenseful type of thriller which
people prefer.
